ROY HARGROVE “Bern” - out now
Roy Hargrove Bern - now available on vinyl, cd and for digital download
Welcome
The late, great Roy Hargrove has always been about music, and this official website is dedicated to moving his music forward and reaching new fans and musicians. This website and the Hargrove Estate are managed by Roy Hargrove Legacy LLC, a company founded by his wife, Aida Brandes-Hargrove, and daughter, Kamala Hargrove, to extend his legacy and celebrate his contributions to jazz and beyond.
Under the stewardship of Aida Brandes-Hargrove Roy Hargrove Legacy has successfully been managing Roy's existing catalog and has been responsible for five new releases: In Harmony (2021), The Love Suite in Mahogany (2023), Grande-Terre (2024), Live at KNKX (2026) and Bern (2026). In addition Roy Hargrove Legacy has been instrumental in the re-releases of several other projects Roy was involved in, among them The Jazz Networks Straight to Standards (Tokyo Sessions), The Jazz Futures Live at Newport, Cedar Walton's The Composer, Oscar Peterson meets Roy Hargrove and Ralph Moore.
In 2022 Roy Hargrove Legacy relaunched the Roy Hargrove Big Band - who have been successfully performing and touring since - followed by Roy Hargrove's Crisol in 2024 and The RH Factor in 2026. For concerts and performance dates check the calendar. The big band has since expanded their reach to include educational projects and have teamed up with institutions like Harlem School of the Arts, South Bronx Charter School for International Cultures and the Arts and Jazz Arts Collective to teach the next generation of musicians. Roy Hargrove Legacy is also actively engaged with the RH Jazz Camp run by Roy's first teacher Dean Hill in his home town of Dallas.
About Roy Hargrove: A two-time Grammy winner who topped the 2019 DownBeat Readers’ Poll for his instrument, Roy is widely acclaimed as one of the premier trumpet players of his generation. He was a musician of wide tastes with a special gift for composition and melody. While always keeping one foot firmly planted in jazz, Hargrove’s career was one of exciting genre-crossing exploration, including collaborations with Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis, Christian McBride, Chucho Valdes, D’Angelo, Erykah Badu, Common and many others. He toured worldwide throughout his 30-year career with the Roy Hargrove Quintet, the Roy Hargrove Big Band, Roy Hargrove’s Crisol, the Jazz Networks, the Jazz Futures and his funk/jazz outfit, the RH Factor™, until his death in 2018 at age 49. He entered the DownBeat “Jazz Hall of Fame” in 2021.
