Last week, the Roy Hargrove Big Band brought Roy’s music and spirit to the Jazz Arts Collective - Summer Jazz Workshop at Fordham College at Lincoln Center.🙌
For the last week of Jazz Arts Collective's Summer Jazz Workshop students had a unique chance to work on three pieces from the big band’s own repertoire - learning directly from original members Danton Boller, Justin Robinson, Jason Marshall, Saul Rubin, and executive director Aida Brandes-Hargrove.
Seeing students dive into the intricacies of Roy’s music with guidance from those who played and created it with him was truly inspiring. The week wrapped up with a powerful student concert on Saturday, where three big bands wowed the crowd with performances of “Roy Allan,” “September in the Rain,” and “Ms. Garvey Ms. Garvey.”
Many thanks to Matt Buttermann, Willie Applewhite, Willerm Delisfort and everyone at Jazz Arts Collective for bringing us on and working with us. It was truly a pleasure and we hope to do it again!
